Steep Point
Steep Point is the westernmost point of the Australian mainland. Steep Point can only be accessed by four-wheel drive and a permit must be obtained in order to travel through Carrarang Station.
Steep Point is renowned for its land based game fishing, with an abundance of game fish able to be caught from the cliff tops. In particular, the narrow barred Spanish Mackeral is one of the most sought after species in the area.
Limestone dominates the landscape of Steep Point, which is a stark contrast to the red sand dunes of the nearby Peron Peninsula. Rainwater is scarce and 200m high cliffs continue to the south of the point (the Zuytdorp Cliffs).
Ocean Park offers an all day 4WD tour to Steep Point, leaving from and returning to Denham in Shark Bay. Tghe tour takes in the natural landscape and wildlife and passes along the magnificent and impressive Zuytdorp Cliffs.
